I edit on two different non-linear applications. AVID XpressProHD, and FinalCutProHD. Both are great editing solutions, both have a major problem that will bite you in the _ _ _.
XpressProHD?
I shoot with a JVC HD100A. If you check the camera's and decks that have been tested for use with this editing application, my camera was added on there quite some time ago. So, that being said, how come when I go to ingest video directly from my camera, it doesn't see it if the video is HD? Okay, the upgrade is 5.7.2 for mac. the title of the application is HD? why doesn't it see HD?
Bloggers, before you ask, I've tried every trick known to man to try and get it to see my camera, it ain't happening, I event sat on the phone with AVID for several hours on 3 different occasions, and the phone techs couldn't get it.
Someone hit me back on that if you can?
Next,
FinalCutProHD?
Personally, this has become my favorite editing application, the maneuverability of it is set for the understanding of my 10 year old, and the added applications in studio i,e. motion, livetype, dvd studio, make this my hands down favorite . . . until?
Currently, I haven't upgraded to version 6, so I'm still running 5.1.4. but as of this version, the DV start/stop is a royal pain in the butt. While it seems that the automatic making of the clips while importing video from tape is a GOD send, the problem is that while making these clips, it searches for the beginning and end of your clips, while the tape is still rolling. Hence, if you didn't do the 5 second rule while shooting, you are officially out of luck. While it is searching for the start and stop of your clip, its going past the beginning of your video, so you automatically lose the first 5-8 seconds of your clips.
The help tells that you can disable this feature . . . okay, do it?
Anywho, happy blogging campers.
One last nugget.
